COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a new strain of Coronavirus which is now called SARS-CoV-2, which was first reported from Wuhan in China in December 2019. Since then, SARS-CoV-2 infection is reported from almost all the countries in the world and has rapidly spread across the globe creating a public health emergency.

In general, pregnant women are vulnerable population and need special attention. Pregnant women are particularly susceptible to respiratory pathogens and severe pneumonia, due to various factors. Further, Indian women are susceptible to infections and pregnancy by itself is a risk factor for acquiring respiratory infections and SARS-CoV-2 infection being no exception.

Currently, there is limited understanding of the COVID-19 in pregnant women and its impact on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes. Studies reported the ethnic differences in presentations and adverse impact of COVID-19.
